22.16 – Markell Mitchell

(2022) Episode 16 – For Markell Mitchell, the prisoners she works with are more than just offenders, they are human beings with hopes and dreams and loved ones. She’s the type of person who has found a career perfectly suited to her personality, skillset, and interests; first as a corrections officer and now as case manager at Nash Correctional Institution. Markell grew up in the Bahamas, spent five years in the U.S. Army, and worked a few other jobs before starting to work with the prison population and finding her passion. One of her favorite parts of her role at Nash Correctional is as Director of the Art Club, which has led to the installment of the prison art exhibit currently ongoing at the Dunn Center at North Carolina Wesleyan College.
